About

Who's Justin Poland?

I'm an avid amateur cyclist, jokester and blogger that loves to compete in all aspects of the sport, primarily mountain biking. Since I've started racing, my interest have branched out into road racing and I recently finished the St Jude Marathon.

Why I Ride....

When I graduated from college, I really didn't have any hobbies besides the occasional fishing trip with my dad. So, after my wife and I moved to Birmingham, my friend Casey brought me to Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, AL to introduce me to the sport of mountain biking.

From the time we entered the woods to the time that we exited the woods, I was in pure bliss. Turn after turn and lungs burning from the lack of fitness, it all connected with me. I found the hobby that would challenge me in ways that I couldn't have planned.

Little did he know.....he created a monster.

Now I ride for the community. If you're a part of the cycling community, you know what I'm talking about. If you're not, the cycling community as a whole encourages fitness and learning experiences. It's like a knowledge base in itself. From the gear to training plans, it's a constant learning process. It makes you feel like you belong and you get to experience nature whether on the road or the trail.

Why I Blog....

After I was introduced to the sport, it came with all sorts of cool perks, mainly blogs of pro athletes. I started following their writings and muses and it encouraged me to start a blog and write for the sake of recording my experiences. Not that I felt like I had a ton to contribute but it allowed me to connect and share with others.
